Around Azeroth: Rubber ducky, you're the one

Oh yeah. This is just what I needed after a long day. A hot bath, a couple of candles, and you. Oh, rubber ducky, you're the only one who truly understands me. You're the only one who doesn't make fun of my massive world of warcraft gold, oversized arms, or call me a space squid, or mock my cousin who tried to take an exfoliating lava bath. If only we could be together! But alas, the anchorites frown on that sort of thing. Don't they understand that a manly man like me has to find something to relax with?

(Thanks to Vesuuvius of on Anvilmar, who I'm sure is less of a pervert than the preceding paragraph made him out to be.)

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com cheap wow gold with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And please, no sunsets, and I promise buy wow gold I will get the gallery working again tonight.

Blizz updates Death Knight site

They may be slower than all the fan sites to release info, but when they do put up pages, my do they make them pretty. Blizzard has updated their official Wrath of the Lich King page with some more information on the Death Knight class cheap wow gold, including discussion of their class role and some sketches of their capabilities. This is nothing we haven't already seen, from that time a week or so ago when every site except us got invited to Blizzard HQ a few weeks back, but if you missed that, here's the highlights: All you need to be able to create a DK is to have a character of level 55. This allows you to create one DK per realm wow gold, on any realm(s) you choose. If you're on a PvP realm, the DK must be the same faction that you're already playing. DKs start at level 55, and can be made in any race you want (subject to PvP realm faction restrictions).
The DK can tank for 5-mans and raids; Blizz claims that "his or her damage output while tanking will be respectable." DKs can also spec for DPS buy wow gold, using both melee and magic.

Gamers on the Street: How heroic do you gotta be to do a heroic?

Gamers on the Street logs onto U.S. servers to get the word from the front on what's going on in and around the World of Warcraft.

When I popped onto the Thrall realm recently to visit with players for Gamers on the Street, I had intended to talk to players about how the Wrath of the Lich King will offer the same instances in both 10-man and 25-man sizes. But as message after message from players seeking heroic groups or group members scrolled through my chat window – none of them stating "no blues" up front, which players list right up in your face on the realms where I play – I knew I needed to follow up. Do players on Thrall simply assume heroic players possess a certain level of gear? Do they plan to carry weaker players? Does the heroic community only group with others they know? I flipped back to WoW Insider for recent insights and found tips for beginners to heroics and pointers toward the easiest heroics wow gold, but nothing that offers players ideas on how to actually get into a heroic group.

Answers from a Lore Nerd part 1

Yesterday I posted Ask a Lore Nerd, in which I asked you, the readers, to ask me any lore questions you'd like. Your questions came wow gold, and I'm doing my best to answer! There were quite a lot of questions, many of them multi-part questions, so I haven't been able to get at all of your questions today. I picked ten comments, answered their questions, and I'll get to the rest of them as soon as possible! Don't be afraid to ask further questions. Keep them coming!

Milkingit asks: Where do murlocs come from?

Answer: We don't know for sure, but there are many theories. Their appearance on land is supposedly a rather recent event world of warcraft gold, but it's likely that murlocs have been living on the ocean floor for many thousands of years, walking Azeroth even longer than Trolls. The Trolls have been believed to be the oldest sentient race on Azeroth, so if the murlocs came first, they're a very old race and we may never know their exact origin.

There are also a few theories on what has inspired murlocs to move inland. The naga taking over the ocean depths may have driven the murlocs inland. The murlocs may be in cahoots with the naga buy wow gold, and the infestation of the mainlands is a tactical move. The murlocs may also be being controlled by Neptulon or some other force, and are doing his/their bidding. We may learn more in Wrath of the Lich King, as the murlocs make a comeback there.

Brazil's illegal logging hard to combat

TAILANDIA, Brazil (AP) -- Acrid smoke from charcoal-making blankets this Amazon logging town with the smell of business as usual. Less than three months ago, federal agents swooped in to close sawmills, confiscate wood and smash charcoal furnaces in a government crackdown on illegal logging.

But tractors are moving logs again in Tailandia world of warcraft gold, as Brazil's renowned environment minister resigned this week, and President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met Friday with Latin American and European leaders seeking to combat climate change.

Locals are back to turning wood scraps into charcoal.

"It's starting up again, but it's not like it was, and nobody knows for how long," said Zenito Santiago de Souza, 44, who lost his job in the government raid. "They're saying the police are coming back on the 20th."

Operation Arc of Fire was rolled out after satellite data in January projected a 34 percent spike in Amazon destruction -- a political embarrassment for Silva after three consecutive years of decline.

But with 70 percent of jobs in the area tied to logging wow gold, the raid left behind widespread unemployment and crime.

Environment Minister Marina Silva, no relation to the president, resigned Tuesday, apparently in despair over the obstacles she faced in policing places like Tailandia. She also criticized the government's failure to provide sustainable alternatives to illegal logging.

Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon region, an area larger than Western Europe, releases an estimated 400 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year, making Brazil the world's sixth-largest emitter of greenhouse gases.

February's crackdown initially enraged residents. About 2,000 protesters burned tires, blocked roads and forced environmental workers to flee before heavily armed federal police restored order.

Sawmills working without registration lost their machinery or were shut. Registered sawmills that could not prove the origin of their wood were fined, and the wood was seized.

"Pretty much everyone was fined. Only one guy wasn't fined, but I think they came back and fined him later," said Flavio Sufredini, who runs a sawmill caught with illegal wood.

It's nearly impossible to work legally in a region where the majority of land has no clear owner, he said. Loggers must provide land titles to receive logging permits.

"The guy who doesn't have any title to the land just cuts it all down because the land doesn't even belong to him cheap wow gold, and so there's nobody to fine," Sufredini said. "It's the guys trying to operate legally that are punished."

Federal police has seized 15,500 tons of illegally logged wood, 19 chain saws, 10 firearms and 95 vehicles.

Brazil's environmental agency, Ibama, handed out more than $25 million in fines. It now reports an 80 percent drop in deforestation in the three Amazon states where the operation continues.

But environmentalists warn that the number is unreliable because little logging occurs between December and June, when conditions are too wet.

While few people spoke openly about the sawmills returning to work, Tailandia was bustling on a Saturday night. Hoteliers and restaurant owners said things were back to normal after an initial slowdown.

Tractors could be glimpsed through the unpainted gates of reopened sawmills hauling tree trunks through the mud in preparation for cutting.

Meanwhile, the town's poor are using the detritus of the raid to earn a meager living.

Sergio Tavares Araujo, 40, gathered scrap wood off the floor of the Santo Antonio sawmill, shut down in February for operating without a license.

Araujo, his wife and a couple others stoked makeshift dirt ovens resembling smoldering graves, turning the scraps into charcoal that would earn them about $7 a day.

"It's enough to scrape by, but if I had a little more money I'd have already left town," Araujo said.

The government program Arc of Green will provide credit and assistance to rural landholders seeking to develop their land in sustainable ways, said Gov buy wow gold. Ana Julia Carepa of the Para state, where Tailandia is located.

"It's important that government comes and provides financing to keep the forest standing," Carepa said. "Because only economic forces can stop logging, when the forest is more valuable standing than it is cut down."

But Joao Medeiros, president of the Tailandia Union of Logging Industries, said the government should have offered those measures before the crackdown.

Many loggers have been waiting for two years now for the government to approve their management plans, which are required to legally cut rain-forest wood.

"I'd say seven out of 10 loggers want to work legally, but the government doesn't have enough staff to approve management plans quickly," Medeiros said. "And people are not going to go hungry waiting."

WoW Insider Show Episode 37: Happy Mother's Day

This last week on the WoW Insider Show, which is now available for listening on WoW Radio, we celebrated Mother's Day by inviting on both Amanda Dean, and her mother Linda Emrys, who is herself a WoW player. We also had Robin Torres on, who not only writes for us here at WoW Insider, but also is the mother of a two-and-a-half year old. Turpster and I were both on wow gold, but we didn't do much more than ask questions this time around -- the ladies got in some good discussion about what it's like to play WoW as a mother, how this game might actually help you raise children, and what it's like coming to WoW as someone who doesn't have a lot of gaming experience. If you're a casual gamer (or just know someone who is), the show should be really interesting to you.

And even if not, we were able to squeeze some great Wrath of the Lich King discussion in there after all of Friday's revelations, including what's up with the Death Knights cheap wow gold, how 10/25 man raiding will change, and all of the other zone information we heard on Friday, from Dragonblight to Grizzly Hills to how what we see in the Borean Tundra gives us clues about what the next expansion might be.

I thought it was a pretty good show, but if you have other opinions (or any opinions, really), feel free to share them by emailing us at buy wow gold. And don't forget that while you can listen to the show either in WoW Radio's archives or on iTunes, you can also hear us live every Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm EST/8:30pm GMT.
Hope your Mother's Day was excellent, and enjoy the podcast!

Get your bear mount before Wrath

You know that awesome Amani War Bear? The one that has been sold for 20,000 gold? Well, you'd better work on getting it as soon as possible if you want one, because when Wrath of the Lich King comes out, it will no longer be attainable world of warcraft. Currently you get it as a reward for a time-based challenge in the ten-man raid Zul'Aman: free all four prisoners in time, get bear.

Tigole just posted in the official forums that upon Wrath's release, the bear will be replaced with "a very good, epic item," basically to preserve the prestige of having gotten the bear at its intended difficult level. He says they plan on doing a similar thing with the "Hand of A'dal" and "Champion of the Naaru" titles as well wow gold. I can understand this move -- it would probably be trivial to get the bear with a raid full of level 80s. And there is still a fair amount of time before Wrath comes out.

However, it makes me sad to see something become impossible to get. I think it would be a better solution if they made it so the bear could only be attained by a raid containing no members above level 70, personally. As Zach pointed out to me cheap wow gold, the change that they're proposing now means that no Death Knight will ever be on a bear mount, and that's just sad. Unless, that is, they introduce a polar bear mount in Northrend -- did somebody say panserbjørne?

Friendly faces in the frozen north

As was pointed out yesterday, quite a few old faces are returning in Wrath of the Lich King. The Scarlet Crusade, The Venture Company, Arugal, etc. Most of them make sense in the context of the events in Northrend, but on the other hand, a couple of them might be inspired by pure fan service. That's totally okay, don't get me wrong wow gold. I loves me some fan service. If simple worgen love is what brought back Arugal, I most certainly will not complain.

Let's pretend for a moment that we could bring back any lore character for Wrath of the Lich King. Blizzard just walks up to you and says buy wow gold, "Hey, who do you want to see in Wrath?" They can be dead or alive, a major character or a minor NPC, whatever you want. If you could do that, who would it be?

My choice would be Justinius the Harbinger. Bring him to Northrend to kick in the Wrath Gate guarding Icecrown with his tauren friend Melgromm Highmountain. If you don't know who Justinius is, he's the super-awesome Draenei Paladin fighting the Burning Legion at the Stairs of Destiny cheap wow gold, just beyond the Dark Portal. He looks quite awesome in his Judgement Armor, plus he's an all around cool guy. Just go watch him in action for a few minutes. He doesn't take crap from any demon.

Around Azeroth: A wish for wings that work

When you've lost your Parachute Cloak, you can get kind of desperate. Actually, this situation isn't nearly as dire as it appears; tankadin Atharey of Black Dragonflight was merely having a ball on the trampoline used for the "Bring Me The Egg" quest in Nagrand. Since she was already flying through the air wow, she figured Avenging Wrath would add a nice touch. Plus, is a paladin ever really in danger? That bubble is pretty much impenetrable, even when it comes to landing on rocks/trees/angry devilsaurs.

Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wowinsider.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!

Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please cheap wow gold, no more sunsets, because the night time is the right time to be with the one you love.

15 Minutes of Fame: MMA fighter grapples with full-contact WoW schedule

15 Minutes of Fame is our look at World of Warcraft players of all shapes and sizes – both the renowned and the relatively anonymous. Tip us off to players you'd like to hear more about at 15minutesoffame (at) wowinsider (dot) com.

Ah, the boundless energy of youth. The world is Jerry Friestad's oyster, and he's losing no time digging up every pearl that catches his eye: raiding, college studies, a burgeoning career as an mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter ... Jerry's truly nailed his main character, a Blood Elf Hunter named Pewpewblzer: they share the same insouciant air and the same over-the-top sense of attack, both online and off. 15 Minutes of Fame caught up with him to find out how he finds time and energy to balance everything on his plate.

15 Minutes of Fame: Introduce us to your characters, Jerry. Who do you play? Jerry Friestad: (My main is) Pewpewblzer, 70 Blood Elf Hunter, Cult of Reason wow gold, Tichondrius US. I also have a 70 Troll Shaman (Pewpewfzer), 70 Blood Elf Paladin (Pewpewlzer) and a few scattered Alliance 60s from pre-Burning Crusade raiding.

College student, end-game raider, and MMA fighter – that's a lot of commitments. What does a typical weekday look like for you? Most of my classes are online this year, so I've been able to take a lot of time to train. I wake up at 6 a.m. Get my morning run in, which is about three miles. I get back and do all of my Quel'Danas island dailies and Ogri'la/Netherwing dailies over two different 70 characters. Then I sit around and do school work until it's time to go to practice. Each day is split up into a different aspect of MMA, and as a team we drill basic moves and spar live. Then at around 8 p.m., I'll get another three-mile run in cheap wow gold, then come home and play WoW. Even if it's a special occasion -- like this week, Grand Theft Auto IV came out -- I'll still remain logged in playing with the Auction House and talk to guildmates.

We want your guild apps!

I'm working on compiling a smorgasbord of guild application questions for an upcoming article, and I need your help! What I need from you, oh dear and faithful readers, are copies of what your guild uses as application questions cheap wow gold. You can post the ones that you think are unique, funny, and insightful in the comments here. Better yet, you can copy and paste your application and send it to me in its entirety to adam.holisky@weblogsinc.com. If your application is easily accessible on the web, shoot me a link to your guild's website and I can check it out there too.

When WoW becomes work

I love World of Warcraft. I should, because I've been playing it since release, I have no idea what could motivate someone to do anything for about three years uninterrupted if not love. But even the most intense, fervent love for the game can hit a rough patch. Lately, as I've been tanking more and doing everything else less, I get nostalgic for those days of running for my life through Stranglethorn Vale while being chased by an inexhaustible army of panthers.

Okay, well, not that part. But lately I'm noticing that I've developed a very workmanlike attitude towards WoW. Punch in (that is to say, log on) an hour before raid time wow gold, get my consumables lined up, talk to the other tanks about strategy, help to herd the raid group to the instance, help summon folks who didn't get there under their own power because they logged on five minutes before raid time, tank the raid, get myself back to Shat, get my banking straightened out, run a few dailies, punch out (that is to say, log out). Maybe I'll log on some alts for PvP or level grinding, and maybe I won't.

Frankly, this is a terrible way to play a game cheap wow gold. So I've resolved that I shall not do so anymore. What am I doing to make my play time less like middle management?

Officers' Quarters: Casual raiding that works

Every Monday Scott Andrews contributes Officers' Quarters, a column about the ins and outs of guild leadership.

This is it, folks. This is the final column in my four-part feature about how to take your casual raids to the next level. For parts one, two, and three wow gold, click on the purple words with lines under them.

I've noticed in the comments under these features that a few people seem confused about the difference between casual and hardcore raiding cheap wow gold. One reader from last week, Ger, put it best:

The point of "casual" is to concentrate on WoW being a fun game more than a chore, but if you want to raid then be prepared to take some dang responsibility and not be a liability to 9 or 24 other people.

That one made me laugh buy wow gold. It's a bit of an exaggeration, yes, but I like that definition. Let's recap what I talked about previously, and follow that up with some more suggestions.

WoW Moviewatch: MC-Addicts 3

If you're a fan of model changing movies, you'll enjoy MC-Addicts 3, which features multiple scenes from a variety of artists. Among them is #machinima's (Quakenet IRC) very own, Xayo, who worked on the first scene wow. Together, they spent a collective six months creating the unique looks!

While there's no plot to speak of, MC3 has some really nice imagery. Done right, sometimes that's all you need. I just have one question for Bullshitmaster. Why did so many innocent cows have to die?

Bornakk posts on Death Knight level and creation

Bornakk has clarified some information about the Death Knight class today. The two key pieces of information he tells us are wow gold:

* Death Knights will start at a level less than 70, but Blizzard wants them to be able to get into Northrend "a little faster".
* Converting a preexisting character to a Death Knight has been ruled out.

This is interesting in that it has been previously thought that the starting level for Death Knights might be as low as 50 or 55. However with Bornakk saying that they want Death Knights to get into Northrend quickly, I would take this to mean that the Death Knight's starting level will be somewhere in the 60s instead cheap wow gold. There's still something for Blizzard to clarify here, but this news is interesting nonetheless.

Bornakk also waxes philosophical about the decision to not have a character convert into a Death Knight. He says that "Leveling a character just to throw it away doesn't really fit [fun game play] very well." He also expects that Death Knights will "find their way" into raid groups just as the Paladins and Shamans did on the Horde and Alliance with the release of Burning Crusade.

While this news on the Death Knight is really just clarification of some previously released information, it does provide a good insight into what Blizzard is thinking about the class. WoW Insider will have all the latest on the Death Knight and Wrath of the Lich King wow, so stay tuned!

Give Gnomer back to the Gnomes

I've heard this idea many times before, but I don't know that we've ever officially covered it

here on the site: there is a fairly large movement in the player base, especially among the

shorter folks world of warcraft, to have Blizzard continue the Gnomeregan story line -- and give Gnomer back to the

Gnomes. Gnomer is pretty much the most hated of all the instances (well, Uldaman might barely

overtake it in some circles), and as happy as the Gnomes are in Ironforge, a lot of the pint-

sized ankle-pokers would like to have their city back.

Unfortunately, Blizzard has given the idea short shrift (ha!) to say the least -- while there are

lots of rumored expansion plans, even beyond Wrath of the Lich King, it's mostly the Maelstrom

and the Emerald Dream; nothing about the Leper Gnomes in Gnomer. You'd think they wouldn't be

that hard to clear out (lower level groups regularly make short work of them -- ha!), although

radiation is tough to fight off cheap wow gold. Even the best Gnomish scientists seem to hold the belief they'll

be able return to Gnomer, so it must be possible, right?

But to make a long story short (ha! OK I'll stop), retaking Gnomeregan just isn't on Blizzard's

priority list. The city might work great as a portal hub, or even a new setting for a BG or

Arena, but as it is right now wow gold, Gnomeregan is staying in the hands of the Lepers and the Troggs.
